    • RE: Pythonista app hangs on start up

      Sorry for the long delay.

The website causing this hang in some way appears to be Smarkets.

It's very heavy usage when loaded and connects to its servers in an apparently different way to usual, sorry, can't be more specific. It also often causes Firefox on Windows to hang.

Since I stopped using the site on this iPad the Pythonista hang has gone away.

Thank you for your interest and help.

    • RE: Pythonista app hangs on start up

      I don't have a Pythonista_startup.

Just tried killing the other apps, this had no effect.

The last thing I did before the hang this time was access Horseracebase using Safari, though this is something I did many times before switching to the Pythonista app. I make a note of it here in case it is significant.

I will note what I was doing before every hang from now on.

    • RE: Pythonista app hangs on start up

I agree it's likely something to do with my setup.

iPad Air 2, ios 9.3.5 (13G36). Free space 10.4 GB.

      No widget.

There are crash reports but not for Pythonista at date and time of events. There aren't any for other apps at the times either.

I generally have a few apps open at the same time.

Safari with 9 to 12ish tabs. Chrome 2 or 3 tabs. Notes. Mail.

Sometimes BBC iPlayer Radio or Overcast.. Google. Google Maps. Trainline. Dictionary. Airbnb. Have been trying to notice any correlation. Top four always in use at same time.

    • RE: Pythonista app hangs on start up

I have 14 tabs open all the time.

There are three large text files not open as tabs. They are all about 130 lines of 80 ish characters.

    • RE: Pythonista app hangs on start up

It just happened again. I knocked the app out of memory and set safe mode. This had no effect.

Neither did pythonista3:// in the address bar.

So back to the trusty restart it was.

I do have a couple of large text files though they aren't open as tabs.

Will try safe mode next time thank you.

      Will report back then.

    • Pythonista app hangs on start up

Every few days my app hangs on the start up screen for a few seconds then appears to crash. It actually leaves a hung app running. Removing this app from memory does not solve the problem.
The only way round it is to restart my iPad Air 2.
I have the latest app release but am still on ios 9.3.5 is that the answer?

    • RE: Login to an API using ssl certificate

Thank you JonB for suggesting Dropbox, ccc for suggesting how to get the path from file and thank you omz for describing how to run python 2 in pythonista 3.

My script now works on iPad, a transition which I thought would be much harder to achieve than it was.

Pythonista was recommended to me by someone who actually works in IT, not a recreational programmer like myself. In my short time using it I must say that I'm impressed by how easy it is to use. I love how the script editor works. And this forum is the business!

The script at github appears to be Python 2.7 and I'm having great difficulty converting to 3.5. Can you point me to a 3.5 version please?
